Explaining complex things in simple words: Non-recognition of Putin’s legitimacy

NON-RECOGNITION OF PUTIN'S LEGITIMACY

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine published a statement regarding the ‘’inauguration’’ of Vladimir Putin on May 7, 2024.

Ukraine sees no legal basis for recognizing Putin as the democratically elected and legitimate president of the Russian Federation During the so-called March ‘’elections,’’ the Russian Federation viated numerous international documents that serve as the foundation for the modern system of international relations. In particular, the UN Charter, the Declaration on the Principles of International Law, the Geneva Convention on the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, the Final Act of the Conference on Security and Coeration in Eure, and dozens of UN General Assembly resutions. The illegal organization of another so-called ‘’electoral process’’ in the TOT of Ukraine – parts of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson regions, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, and the city of Sevast – constituted a brutal viation of the generally recognized norms and principles of international law and an act of vience against millions of Ukrainian citizens. Vladimir Putin is a person who is wanted under the warrant of the International Criminal Court on suspicion of committing war crimes, in particular, organizing the kidnapping and deportation of Ukrainian children. Recent resutions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Eure dated April 17 No. 2540 (2024) and the Eurean Parliament dated April 25 No. 2024/2665(RSP) confirm the ineligibility of hding so-called "elections" in the TOT of Ukraine and, in fact, refute the legitimacy of their results. The Russian authorities are attempting to give the entire world and its own citizens the illusion of legality for the nearly lifelong stay in power of a person who has turned the Russian Federation into an aggressor state and the ruling regime into a dictatorship. Putin's continued stay at the head of a nuclear state is an existential threat not only to Ukraine, but also to all of humanity. We call on foreign countries, international organizations, and the public to flow suit by not recognizing the results of these pseudo-elections in the Russian Federation or the legitimacy of the Russian dictator.
