
The main round of the 2026 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship has concluded, with the final matches played by future playoff participants: Canada played the Czech Republic, and Switzerland played Finland.
The Canadians won a strong-willed victory over the Czechs with a score of 3: 2. Finland fought back from two goals down, but conceded two decisive goals to the Swiss — 2: 4.

The current holders of the trophy, the USA, also managed to make it to the playoffs in a head-to-head match after beating Austria and taking the last qualifying spot in the group. In the quarterfinals, the Americans will face a repeat of the main match of the 2026 Olympics against Canada.
Great Britain and Italy, the only two teams without a win since the start of the tournament, have been eliminated from the elite division. They will be replaced at this level next season by the national teams of Ukraine and Kazakhstan.
