The Ukrainian freelance market is increasingly moving towards narrow expertise. Businesses are no longer looking for just universal workers with a “skill set” – companies are looking for people who can complete specific, complex tasks.
What kind of freelance workers is a business looking for?
Now, specialists who have deep specialization in their niche can receive 2-3 thousand dollars per month or more, writes OBOZ.
The analysis showed a clear pattern: among performers with an income of over $3,000 per month, narrow-profile specialists predominate. However, among those earning up to $500, less than half are such experts.
In other words, the market is increasingly valuing the “do everything a little at a time” format and is increasingly paying for a deep understanding of a specific area.

TOP areas where narrowly focused specialists are needed
- Outsourcing and consulting – 86.4% of specialists have a clear niche;
- Architecture and engineering – 72.2%;
- Programming (IT) – 64.8%.
But where the “broad profile” still prevails is in the categories “Working with texts” (copywriting, translations) and “Services”. There, only about a third of performers have a narrow specialization. That is why it is usually more difficult to break through the financial ceiling in these areas.
What does this mean?
Analysts explain: businesses are no longer willing to pay “for everything at once.” Companies are more willing to invest in people who:
- quickly perform complex tasks;
- have narrow competence;
- make fewer mistakes;
- work with a predicted result.
In fact, the market is increasingly moving from universality to expertise:
- For freelancers: To make more money, you need to stop selling just “hours of work.” You need to build a personal brand around a specific, complex problem.
- For business: Hiring an expensive but narrowly focused expert is a cost-effective solution. Such a specialist delivers results much faster, makes fewer mistakes, and his work is easier to predict.
