American company Zoom Communications has invested $97 million in artificial intelligence startup Anthropic, raising over $1 billion. Zoom's total stake in AI chatbot developer Claude is now worth $1.27 billion.
This was reported by Bloomberg, citing the company's financial statements published on May 22.
Zoom’s share price could rise even further. Anthropic could close a new funding round as soon as next week, valuing the company at more than $900 billion, according to Bloomberg. Zoom’s current valuation is based on a February funding round that valued the AI startup at $380 billion.
Zoom invested in Anthropic in early 2023 as part of a partnership involving Claude’s models. Since then, the company has been actively adding AI-powered features, including an AI-powered work assistant.
In announcing the partnership with Anthropic, Zoom disclosed $51 million in new strategic investment — but did not specify how much of it went to the startup. In addition, Zoom has invested an additional $46 million in Anthropic in recent months.
