SBU announced the exposure of the FSB agent network: detentions took place in Kyiv and Odessa

The Security Service of Ukraine announced the exposure of an agent network of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, which, according to the investigation, was collecting data to adjust Russian strikes on the Kyiv and Odessa regions. Two men suspected of treason were detained in Kyiv and Odessa.

This was reported on May 22 on the Facebook page of the SBU Department in the Odessa region.

As reported by the SBU, an IT specialist from Mykolaiv was detained in Kyiv. According to the investigation, Russian special services recruited him for cooperation in 2014 and “canned” him for further tasks. The investigation revealed that since February 2026, he had been preparing coordinates for a Russian missile strike on Kyiv, in particular on the house of the head of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.

“Recently, the Russian special services 'activated' an agent and instructed him to move to Kyiv to collect data on public figures against whom the Russian Federation was preparing sabotage and terrorist attacks. The enemy's 'target' included well-known politicians and representatives of the command of Ukraine's security and defense sector,” the SBU said in a statement.

The SBU reported that, according to FSB instructions, the suspect was to track the addresses of homes and travel routes of potential “targets” and report this to the curator in Moscow.

“To carry out a hostile task, the person involved made new acquaintances, which he then “secretly” used to obtain intelligence information. Very often, the attacker acted under the guise of providing private services for the administration of computer systems and their maintenance. And then, under the guise of everyday conversations, he asked for the “necessary” information,” the Security Service noted.

Later, according to the SBU, the man recruited another IT specialist from Odessa. The security service claims that together they created a network of informants who transmitted data on the deployment of Ukrainian military personnel.

SBU officers detained one suspect in a rented apartment in Kyiv and his accomplice in Odessa. During the searches, law enforcement officers seized smartphones from the detainees, which, according to the investigation, contain evidence of work for the FSB.

Both men were informed of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 Treason under martial law of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. They are currently in custody. If convicted, they face life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

In a comment to Suspilny, the spokesperson for the SBU in the Odessa region, Hanna Shevchuk, clarified that the suspects were given preventive measures in the form of detention without the right to post bail.
