The sixth day of play, which included four matches, has ended in the elite division of the 2026 World Ice Hockey Championship.
Following the results of the games on Wednesday, May 20, the national teams of Switzerland, the Czech Republic, the USA and Sweden achieved victories. In particular, the Swiss team was the only one to win all four matches in the tournament.

On the sixth day of competition, the Czech Republic made a comeback and defeated Group B underdog Italy to move into the top four. Group A was led by Switzerland, which achieved the most crushing victory at the 2026 World Cup, defeating Austria.
How was the fifth day of the 2026 World Cup?
- Switzerland and Austria met in the match for the leaders of Group A – both teams were undefeated in the tournament. The Swiss had a four-goal lead from the first period; in the following periods they added three and two goals, defeating the Austrians 9:0.
- In the other match in this group, the USA and Germany played each other. After two periods, the Germans had a 3:2 advantage, but the Americans tied the score. In overtime, the teams failed to score, so the winner was decided in a shootout – the USA won (4:3).
- In Group B, Italy suffered their fourth consecutive defeat, this time to the Czech Republic. The Czechs also made a comeback after two periods, coming back from a 0-1 deficit, scoring three goals.
- In the other Group B match, Sweden scored two goals against Slovenia and added four more in the second period (6:0). As a result, the Swedes achieved the second biggest victory at the 2026 World Cup after Switzerland's triumph against Austria (9:0).
