A record number of climbers climbed Everest from the Nepal side in a day

A record number of climbers from the Nepalese side climbed Everest in a single day — 274 people. This is the largest number of ascents recorded in such a short period of time.

This was reported by Reuters on May 21, citing Rishi Bhandari, secretary general of the Nepal Expedition Operators Association.

According to him, this new figure surpassed the previous record of 223 ascents of Everest, which was set on May 22, 2019.

According to the Guinness Book of Records, the record for the number of people who reached the summit of Everest from both sides — Nepalese and Tibetan — was set the next day, on May 23, 2019. Then 354 climbers did it.

Bhandari noted that the number of Everest ascents could increase further because not all climbers have managed to report to base camp that they have successfully reached the summit. After completing the route, they must provide photos and other evidence that they have climbed the mountain. Then they will be issued official certificates.

Everest is the highest peak on the planet, located at an altitude of 8,849 meters above sea level between Nepal (southern slope) and the Tibet Autonomous Region of China (northern slope).
