A foreigner will go on trial in Kyiv. He is suspected of robbing a pensioner's apartment of almost 155,000 hryvnias under the pretext of selling power tools.
This was reported today, May 20, by the press service of the Main Directorate of the National Police of Kyiv.
It is noted that in late March, an 84-year-old resident of the Svyatoshynskyi district contacted the Kyiv police. He said that money and documents had been stolen from his apartment.
“Then law enforcement officers established that an unknown man came to the pensioner's apartment with an offer to purchase power tools at a low price. While the owner was distracted, the attacker stole $2,700, 700 euros, as well as a wallet with documents and bank cards from the bedroom,” the report says.
The police informed that law enforcement officers exposed and detained a 19-year-old foreigner. Investigators informed him of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 185 and Part 3 of Article 357 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
If the defendant is proven guilty, he could face up to eight years in prison for theft committed under martial law, as well as for illegally taking possession of a passport and other important personal documents.
