
The Sviatoshynskyi District Court of Kyiv announced the verdict for the driver who hit two National Guard servicemen at a checkpoint in July 2023. One of them died on the spot from his injuries.
This was reported on May 16 by the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
The driver was 23 years old at the time of the fatal accident. The accident occurred during curfew.

According to the case file, the driver was driving along Beresteyskyi Avenue at a speed of at least 134.52 km/h. This is twice the permissible speed limit on that section of the road.
Approaching the checkpoint, he did not slow down, although road warning signs required it, and ran over two National Guard soldiers who were on duty at the checkpoint.
The 49-year-old soldier died at the scene from his injuries, while his 26-year-old colleague was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
In addition, the driver also rammed two cars that were near the checkpoint.

“The Svyatoshyn District Court supported the prosecutor's position – found the driver guilty of causing a fatal road accident (Part 2, Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced the accused to 7 years in prison with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for 3 years,” the prosecutor's office said in a statement.
