Spotify is expanding its social features with the launch of group chats, allowing users to discuss music, podcasts, and audiobooks directly within the app.
Spotify has announced the launch of group chats, which allow you to share podcasts, playlists, and audiobooks with groups of up to 10 people . The feature is an extension of the messaging service that the company introduced last August. It writes Techcrunch.
How do group chats work on Spotify?
You can only start a chat with users you've already had a shared activity with in the app. This includes shared playlists, participating in a Jam , or using the Blend feature. You won't be able to create a conversation without prior interaction.
According to Techbuzz , the innovation is part of Spotify's strategy to develop the social component of the platform. Over the past few years, the service has gradually added elements of interaction between users, including comments on podcasts, the ability to subscribe to other listeners and see what they are listening to.
The company previously noted that the new chats should not replace messengers . Spotify advises to continue sharing content outside the application, and considers embedded messages as a complement to external platforms.
