In Kyiv, a man threatened to blow up a house: he was detained

A man was detained in Kyiv for threatening to blow up a multi-story building in the Shevchenkivskyi district. Law enforcement officers have opened criminal proceedings on the fact of hooliganism.

This was reported by the capital's National Police Department.

In the morning, the emergency number 102 received a message from a man who stated his intention to let natural gas into an apartment in a high-rise building on Ihorya Turchyna Street and cause an explosion. Investigators, patrol officers, explosives technicians, and dog handlers arrived at the scene. Law enforcement officers evacuated the residents of the building and turned off the gas, the police said.

“The operatives also quickly located the apartment where the man was. He locked himself inside the apartment and threatened to harm himself through the door, and also claimed to have a grenade,” the report says.

The police negotiated with the man and he soon left the apartment. He is a 40-year-old local resident. No explosives were found during a search of his home, the police headquarters said.

The suspect was taken to the police department to establish all the circumstances. Investigators have initiated criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – hooliganism. The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment from three to seven years. The issue of notifying the offender of suspicion is being resolved, the police added.
