Elina Svitolina's potential opponent in the semifinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome has been determined

World number three Iga Swiontek reached the semifinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome. In the quarterfinals, the Polish tennis player defeated American Jessica Pegula in straight sets.

The match between Swiontek and Pegula in Rome was their 12th head-to-head meeting. The American came into this match on a two-set win streak over the Polish player.

In the first set, Swiontek went on a five-game winning streak and came close to winning the match. However, in the sixth game, Pegula managed to beat the Polish player, but this was the only game for the American in the match.

The second set followed a similar scenario – Swiontek won four games, after which Pegula tried to regain the lead, but in the end the match ended with the Polish athlete winning 6:2.

Thus, Iga Švěntek became the third semifinalist of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome, joining fellow American Coco Hoffe and Sorana Kirsti from Romania. Švěntek's opponent in the semifinals will be determined in the last quarterfinal match between Elina Svitolina and Yelena Rybakina from Kazakhstan.
