The Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office has reported suspicions to a 33-year-old native of Khmelnytskyi region. He is accused of high treason.
This was reported today, May 13, by the press service of the department.
The investigation established that the suspect, in search of part-time work, met an unknown person on Telegram who used the phone number of a Russian operator.
“He offered to help verify the Starlink satellite communication terminal for money, since these systems are disabled in the territory where the Russian occupation troops are deployed. The man was promised $100 for this. He completed the work,” the report says.
The police informed that the suspect understood that the communication systems he activated were used by the Russian armed forces to coordinate combat operations against the Ukrainian military, and that his assistance to the military of the aggressor country was subversive activity against Ukraine.
The man's actions were classified as high treason (Part 2, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). He is being held without bail. The maximum penalty under the article is life imprisonment.
On April 1, the prosecutor's office reported that a 24-year-old resident of the Kyiv region is suspected of treason. According to the investigation, the man met a Russian military officer on social networks, who offered to verify a Starlink terminal for $200. The man came to the post office with documents and the terminal's identifier and registered it. After verification, he received the promised money for a crypto wallet. Later, the suspect involved his colleague and his wife in the scheme.
