The Cabinet of Ministers updated the list of countries for simplified obtaining of Ukrainian citizenship: who is on the list

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved an updated list of countries whose citizens can acquire Ukrainian citizenship in a simplified manner. The list includes EU and NATO countries, as well as Canada, the USA, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland.

This is stated on the resolution page.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine adopted Resolution No. 589 of May 8, 2026, which amended the list of states whose citizens have the right to a simplified procedure for acquiring Ukrainian citizenship.

According to the document, the updated list has been approved in a new version and includes a number of European Union countries, as well as Ukraine's partner states.

The list includes, in particular, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Great Britain, Greece, Denmark, Estonia, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Canada, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Germany, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, USA, Hungary, Finland, France, Croatia, Czech Republic, Switzerland and Sweden.

The government resolution provides that citizens of these states may acquire Ukrainian citizenship in a simplified manner in accordance with current legislation.

The decision was adopted as part of the update of Ukraine's migration and citizenship policy and comes into force in accordance with the procedure determined by the government.

Recall that on March 30, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law that allows foreign volunteers to avoid having to obtain a long-term visa to obtain a temporary residence permit in Ukraine. The simplified procedure will be in effect during martial law and for a year after its end. The law does not apply to Russian citizens.
