Exactly one year ago, on May 12, 2025, TV presenter and military serviceman Maksym Nelipa died while performing a combat mission. The defender's family still does not receive state payments.
Nelipa's brother Andriy told about this in an interview with OBOZ.UA.
Andriy Nelipa said that after the death of his brother, the family faced bureaucracy. The TV presenter's relatives are experiencing great grief and at the same time have to deal with the processing of various documents.
Maksym's brother shared that while processing the documents, the family saw certain problems in the system that relatives of fallen Ukrainian defenders still face.
People think that 15 million is automatically given to all the families of the deceased, but in reality it is a very lengthy procedure with a lot of checks and documents. And many families, including ours, have not received anything yet,
– Andriy noted.
The man added that there is a complex process of verification and approval of documents. At the same time, he noted that the family did not experience any negative attitude from representatives of the CCC, military leadership, or funeral services.
The problem lies elsewhere – in the system itself. It is built so complicatedly and bureaucratically that it actually creates a huge number of obstacles,
– Nelipa explained.
For reference! Maksym Nelipa stood up for Ukraine at the beginning of the full-scale invasion. He was the commander of a reconnaissance platoon in the Ground Forces. The TV presenter was said goodbye on May 23, 2025 at the Center for Culture and Arts of KPI, Espresso TV wrote. He was buried at the Baykovo Cemetery.
Why can't Maksym Nelipa's family erect a monument?
Earlier, Andriy Nelipa said that the Kyiv authorities still cannot provide a unified monument, which is being built for the defenders at the city's expense. The fact is that the TV presenter is buried at the Baikovo cemetery, and not in a specialized sector of honorary burials.
Nelipa's family decided to erect the monument themselves, but this would require a considerable sum of money – approximately 150,000 hryvnias. Thus, the soldier's brother opened a fundraiser.
Kyiv City Council member Ksenia Semenova responded to Andriy's statement, stressing that she would try to influence the situation. She apologized to Nelipa's relatives.
Later, Maksym Nelipa's ex-wife, Tamara, criticized his brother for collecting money for the monument. She suggested that Andriy could be collecting money for his own needs, since he does not publish reports.
