The Darnytsia District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv has reported suspicion to a 44-year-old resident of the city. He is accused of committing lewd acts against a minor child.
This was reported today, May 11, by the press services of the Main Directorate of the National Police of Kyiv and the city prosecutor's office.
According to the case materials, a Kyiv resident met a 9-year-old girl who was walking alone on the street near the entrance of his house. The suspect gave the child a bicycle and promised to teach her to ride it. In this way, he spent time with her, gaining her trust – he treated her to sweets and gave her a mobile phone. He also asked her to send him intimate photos in the messenger, law enforcement officials informed.
“The third-grader perceived the adult man as a friend and trusted him, so she came to his house. The so-called friend committed lewd acts against her right in the apartment, including showing off his genitals. The man has no family and lives with his mother, and he invited the child home when the mother was at work,” the report says.
During another meeting with the girl near the “Kharkivska” metro station, the patrol police noticed a man who was transporting the child on a bicycle frame, in violation of traffic rules. The police stopped him to check his documents.
“During the conversation, the man was unable to explain to law enforcement officers why an unfamiliar girl was with him, with whom he was going for a walk in the park. Later, investigators found intimate photos and videos of a minor on the attacker's phone,” the report says.
The police detained the man and informed him of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 156 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – corruption of minors. The sanction of the article provides for up to eight years of imprisonment. During the pre-trial investigation, the suspect will be held in custody without the right to set bail.
On April 28, law enforcement officials reported that in the Obukhiv region, the Kaharlytskyi District Court sentenced a 32-year-old local resident for three years of sexual abuse of his 8-year-old niece. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
On March 19, it was reported that the Kyiv Court of Appeals increased the sentence of a 35-year-old man who tried to rape an 8-year-old boy in a school toilet in Podil. The first-instance court sentenced him to 6 years and 6 months in prison. Juvenile prosecutors filed an appeal, demanding a longer sentence. The new sentence is 10 years behind bars.
