
Sporting of Portugal ended Palma's winning streak in the Champions League. In the final of this year's tournament, the Portuguese team defeated their opponent with a score of 2:0.
Palma started the tournament as defending champions for the third time in a row. In the final match, the Spaniards faced Sporting Lisbon, who eventually became the new Champions League winners.
Sporting's victory was brought by goals from Diogo Santos, who scored in the sixth minute of the match, as well as an own goal scored by Palma player Alisson in the 36th minute.
Sporting and Palma qualified for the main round of the Champions League, each winning three group stage matches. In the round of 16, the Spaniards faced Ukrainian HIT: in the first leg, the Ukrainians managed to draw 2:2, and in the return leg, Palma won 4:2. After that, the Spaniards suffered their first defeat in the tournament, losing 0:1 to Riga. Sporting also suffered one defeat in the play-offs of the tournament, losing the first leg of the quarter-finals to Benfica.
For Sporting, the victory in the 2025/26 Champions League was the third in their history. In this indicator, the Portuguese team tied with the same “Palma”. The Lisbon team last won the most prestigious European cup in the 2020/21 season.
