The EU assesses the threat of the spread of hantavirus as low

European Commission spokeswoman Eva Grncirova said that the European Union assesses the threat of the spread of hantavirus as low. The EU remains on “alert” mode regarding the situation with the spread of this virus.

Eva Grntsirova's statement is reported by a correspondent of Suspilny.

According to the spokeswoman, the European Commission relies on WHO data on the spread of hantavirus and its threat.

“We are joining forces with Member States, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, the World Health Organization and partners from the G7 to ensure a coordinated and, above all, science-based response,” said Eva Grncirova.

According to her, on May 10, four flights were carried out under the civil protection mechanism for citizens of EU member states using special vehicles and adhering to the necessary sanitary protocols to protect passengers, crews, operational personnel, as well as the general public for their evacuation from areas of hantavirus infection.

“We have also actively supported and coordinated the evacuations carried out by Spain. We remain on standby for additional vehicles, logistical capacity and protective equipment should any of this be required, and we will keep you and the public informed of verified information as the situation develops,” the spokeswoman said.
