The price of last year's carrots has begun to rise rapidly on the Ukrainian market due to a reduction in warehouse stocks. At the same time, demand for the vegetable remains stable, which has allowed producers to significantly raise selling prices.

Carrot stocks on farms are almost exhausted

Another increase in prices for last year's carrots is being recorded on the domestic market of Ukraine. According to EastFruit analysts, the main reason for the price increase was the seasonal reduction in product stocks in farm warehouses.

Experts note that most producers have already sold the main volumes of the harvest, so it is increasingly difficult to find quality products on the market. At the same time, demand for carrots remains stable, and trading activity in the segment has noticeably revived.

Under such conditions, farmers who still have leftover root vegetables have the opportunity to revise prices upwards.

Farmers raised prices by more than 20%

Currently, Ukrainian producers are ready to sell quality carrots for 9-16 hryvnias per kilogram, which is on average 22% more expensive than at the end of the last working week.

Market participants explain that the shortage of products was formed precisely because of the rapid reduction of stocks on farms. This created additional pressure on prices and intensified competition among buyers for quality goods.

At the same time, analysts remind that last year the situation on the market was similar, but then carrots were much more expensive. On average, prices for quality products were 3.2 times higher than now.

How much do carrots cost in stores now?

According to the Ministry of Finance, the following prices for carrots have currently been set in large supermarket chains in Ukraine:

  • Metro 19.90 hryvnias per kilogram;
  • Auchan 19.90 hryvnias per kilogram;
  • Megamarket 23.50 hryvnias per kilogram;
  • Varus 23.90 hryvnias per kilogram;
  • Silpo 24.20 hryvnias per kilogram.

Cucumbers are rapidly falling in price for the third week in a row: what are the prices in supermarkets?

At the same time, cucumbers began to become cheaper on the fruit and vegetable market in Ukraine earlier.

  • Prices for greenhouse cucumbers in Ukraine are falling due to increasing supply and weak demand, and are offered for 40-70 hryvnias per kilogram.

  • Warm weather accelerated the ripening of cucumbers, which further increased market volumes and forced farmers to lower prices.

As a result, farmers are forced to lower prices to avoid hoarding. If demand does not increase, the trend towards lower prices may continue.
