Ani Lorak became a Russian citizen
In 2005, the artist really wanted to go to Eurovision, but the ticket to the trip was won by the band “Grindzholi”. But in 2008, Ani Lorak did go to Belgrade with a song written by Kremlin supporter Philip Kirkorov and Greek composer Dmitris Kontopoulos.

The singer took second place, and Viktor Yushchenko awarded her and Philip Kirkorov the title of People's Artists of Ukraine.
After 2014, when Russia started a war in Donbas and occupied Crimea, she moved to the aggressor country. She came to Ukraine with concerts, but activists did not always allow her to perform.
In October 2022, the National Security and Defense Council imposed sanctions against traitorous Ukrainian artists, including Ani Lorak. It is worth noting that the singer ignored the full-scale war started by Russia, and from time to time cynically mentions peace.
In an interview with the propaganda channel NTV, the Russian star confirmed that she is financing the kidnapping of Ukrainian children. The singer said that she will direct part of her income from the performance in Moscow to an organization that takes care of “orphan refugees” from the Zaporizhzhia region and Donbas.
In 2024, Volodymyr Zelensky issued a decree depriving a number of people of their state awards. The traitor Lorak was on the list. She is no longer an Honored Artist of Ukraine.
In June 2025, it became known that Ani Lorak had received a Russian passport.

MARUV earned Russian rubles
The singer did not go to Eurovision, but in 2019 she won the National Selection with the song Siren Song.

The singer did not go to the competition because she did not reach an agreement with the Ukrainian Broadcasting Corporation and did not sign a contract. MARUV supposedly agreed not to tour in Russia, but refused to transfer the rights to the video and song.
In May last year, former member of the board of the Public Broadcaster, Oleksandra Koltsova, said that at that time the positions of the singer and the broadcaster were very different.
She strongly disagreed with the fact that she could not afford to hug Lazarev, because he was, they say, her friend. And we tried to convey: “Anikka, we have a war. You are talented, but you must understand that you are not just an artist now and you cannot afford this rhetoric when your country is at war, and your compatriots are under Russian bombs,

During the selection, she made statements in the style of “what difference does it make”: she claimed that she was speaking in Russia because she brought peace, and that Russians should not be judged only by the president.

After these events, she went to Russia. There, she managed to receive the ZD AWARDS award, perform at the birthday party of producer Joseph Prigozhin, and sing in Moscow at the ZHARA Music Awards.
At the MTV Europe Music Awards , MARUV won as a Russian singer , declaring that she is a world artist.
When Russia launched a full-scale war against Ukraine, the singer came forward on February 26 and said she was worried about her safety and the health of her baby (she was pregnant at the time).
And that's not all. Anna even dedicated a few lines to the Russian military.

But from that moment on, a lull began. Public statements ended, as did reports about MARUV's whereabouts. In June 2022, someone took a photo of the singer in one of the hospitals in Kyiv.

In March 2024, it became known that the singer continues to cooperate with the Russian label. Under the contract, she receives millions of rubles in income, and also added her tracks to the Russian Yandex Music platform, sponsoring the economy of the aggressor country.
It is not known exactly how much MARUV was able to earn from Russian listeners. In 2022, this amount could have been about 337 thousand rubles, and in 2023 – 466 thousand rubles.
Today she probably lives in the UAE.
