
The Obolon District Prosecutor's Office of Kyiv has reported suspicions to two men. They are accused of taking money from a Kyiv woman under the guise of Security Service of Ukraine employees.
This was reported today, May 8, by the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor's Office.
The investigation established that the 75-year-old woman received a call and was informed that the SBU suspects her of treason and financing an aggressor country. Therefore, as part of the investigation, she must submit all her savings for verification.
“A pensioner was “searched” via video link, demanding to show money. After that, the woman was assigned a meeting place where she should bring her savings. Two men were waiting for her there, to whom she gave 28,700 US dollars and 100 Euros. They promised to return the money after checking,” the report says.
According to the investigation, the suspects transferred the money they received through currency exchange to the crypto accounts of people they did not know. They kept 400 US dollars for themselves.
The actions of the suspects were classified under Part 5 of Article 190 Complicity in fraud committed on a particularly large scale of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The court chose a preventive measure for them – detention with the right to post bail in the amount of 1.2 million and almost 2 million UAH. The sanction of the article provides for up to twelve years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. Currently, law enforcement officers are checking the involvement of the defendants in similar frauds, the prosecutor's office informed.
It was previously reported that the capital's law enforcement officers suspect a 36-year-old man from Sumy region of fraud. According to the investigation, he presented himself as an employee of the Security Service of Ukraine and swindled a 71-year-old People's Artist of Ukraine out of more than 128 thousand US dollars and 400 thousand hryvnias. The suspect was detained and a preventive measure was chosen – detention with the alternative of bail in the amount of more than 3.3 million hryvnias.
