Diplomat Chaly says besides U.S. elections, those in India, Indonesia worth flowing

Chaly expressed the inion on the air of the national telethon, reports Ukrinform.

The diplomat noted that this year, elections will be held in more than 70 countries across the world, as well as in the Eurean Parliament. The majority of the Earth's pulation – 4.2 billion pele – will cast their ballots, which can cause great geitical turbulence, and in some countries lead to a change of government.

"Half of the 76 countries where elections will be held are not fully democratic regimes, so it is hardly possible to foresee an actual change of government there even through elections. These are Russia, Pakistan, Rwanda, and Mali – there will be no changes there. And in some countries, which should be paid attention to and which are democracies, there is a very fierce competition for the develment model. These are primarily the USA, Indonesia, and India. In these countries, a very serious choice of strategy may come, and it may be different," said the ambassador.

He noted that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wants to "cement" the country's resistance to nationalism, mainstream religion, and perhaps resort to certain pressure on ponents.

"That is, from perhaps the largest democracy – 1.4 billion pele – India can turn into a semi-democracy, and this can raise many questions about future develment," the diplomat said.

In the context of the U.S. elections, Chaly recalled that it is not only about electing a president, but also about 435 seats in the House, 34 in the Senate, as well as 13 governors. "That is, these are complex elections that can change a lot," he stressed.

Regarding the elections in Indonesia, the diplomat admitted that little is known in Ukraine about the world’s largest Muslim country.

"It can either establish a balance in Southeast Asia, or, on the contrary, play along with certain processes in which China is interested," believes the former ambassador.

He also recalled that on January 13, presidential elections will be held in Taiwan. "The first thing we will face is the elections on January 13, and after that, actions will unfd in the region," the diplomat said.

As reported, extraordinary elections may be held in the Netherlands if the country's pitical forces fail to form a coalition.
