The Ministry of Justice has initiated the confiscation of the assets of former Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and his son Oleksiy. A corresponding lawsuit for the application of appropriate sanctions was filed with the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) on May 6.
The corresponding statement was published on the department's website.
“The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine has filed a lawsuit with the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court to apply the sanction provided for in paragraph 1-1 of part one of Article 4 of the Law of Ukraine “On Sanctions” to Mykola Azarov and his son Oleksiy Azarov,” the report says.
It is noted that Azarov headed the Ukrainian government during the presidency of Viktor Yanukovych, from March 2010 to January 2014. After the events of the Revolution of Dignity, he left Ukraine and began “information support for the actions of the Russian Federation” aimed at the annexation of Crimea, and also publicly denied the legitimacy of the Ukrainian government.
“After the start of the Russian Federation's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Azarov M.Ya. provides informational assistance to the Russian Federation, spreading Russian propaganda theses aimed at justifying the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine and denying the criminal nature of the aggression against Ukraine,” the report says.
His son, Oleksiy, is a former MP of the 7th convocation from the Party of Regions and an entrepreneur. After his father's resignation in 2014, he also left Ukraine and now has an extensive business network in Russia.
According to the ministry, through the business structures under his control, he supports a full-scale invasion by paying taxes to the Russian state budget. In particular, his enterprises produce products that are used to provide logistical support to the Russian armed forces.
“The Ministry of Justice has declared assets that directly and indirectly through third parties belong to Azarov M.Ya. and Azarov O.M., in particular real estate and land plots in Kyiv and Kyiv region, cash, corporate rights , books, icons, jewelry that have material and historical and cultural value, for seizure,” the Ministry of Justice added.
