
Ukrainian tennis player Daria Snigur failed to reach the main draw of the WTA 1000 tournament for the second time in her career. In the final of the qualification for the “thousandth” in Rome, the Ukrainian lost to the representative of the host country of the competition, Noemi Baziletti.
The 24-year-old Snigur lost in three sets to Noemi Basiletti, the world's 427th-ranked player. Thus, the Ukrainian was unable to repeat the success of the WTA 1000 tournament in Madrid and reach the main draw of the competition.
How was the match?
- At the start of the first set, the Ukrainian took the advantage and was able to take the lead — 3:1. However, thanks to a series of five won games, Baseletti turned the tide of the match and snatched a 6:3 victory.
- Snigur started the second set more actively again, making a dash to three won games. However, the Italian was able to equalize the score, and the match continued with an even game to 6:6. As a result, the game went to a tiebreak, where Snigur turned out to be stronger — 10:8.
- In the decisive, third set, with the score tied at 3:3, Baseletti seized the initiative in the match and was ultimately able to complete the match with a 6:4 victory.

Four Ukrainians will participate in the final part of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome: Elina Svitolina (from the second round), as well as Dayana Yastremska and Yulia Starodubtseva. Angelina Kalinina may also get there, as she will play against American Katie Volynets in the qualifying final.
Oleksandra Oliynykova became the first Ukrainian to advance to the main draw of the tournament, defeating Croatian Petra Marchinko. Thanks to this, she will join Svitolina in the second round of the competition.
