Spotify is launching a new artist verification system to separate real musicians from content created by artificial intelligence. Amid the rapid growth of AI tracks, the platform is adding a special icon and expanding information about artists.
Streaming service Spotify has announced the launch of a new verification system that will help listeners distinguish between music created by humans and tracks generated by artificial intelligence. In the coming weeks, the ” Verified by Spotify ” mark in the form of a green check mark will appear on artist profiles and in search results. It will mean that the account has been verified and meets the platform's authenticity standards. This is reported by The Guardian .
How will the new artist verification work?
The company explained that profiles that mostly represent AI music or fictional digital images will not be able to receive this status. According to Spotify, in the era of active development of artificial intelligence, the issue of trust in music becomes critically important.
To earn the badge , artists must demonstrate consistent listener interest over time, adhere to the service's rules, and prove their real presence off the platform. Criteria include concerts, merch sales, social media activity, and linked accounts.
At launch, over 99% of the artists actively searched for by users will already have verified status. This includes hundreds of thousands of musicians from different genres and countries.
The move comes amid growing concerns in the music industry about the influx of AI-generated content. For example, Deezer recently reported that 44% of all new tracks uploaded daily were created by AI. Major labels are also responding , with Sony Music saying it has requested the removal of more than 135,000 AI-generated tracks that mimicked its artists.
According to TechCrunch , in addition to verification, Spotify is adding a new information block to artist pages . It will display key career milestones, release frequency, and performance history. The company compares this tool to food labeling, which helps you quickly assess the quality of a product.
The announcement of the new feature came after Spotify's financial report for the first quarter of 2026. The company reported that the number of paid subscribers reached 293 million .
