Kazakhstan defeated Japan and single-handedly led Ukraine's division at the World Ice Hockey Championships

The Kazakhstan national hockey team won its second consecutive victory in Division IA at the 2026 World Championship. The match ended in a 6-0 defeat.

The second game day of the 2026 World Ice Hockey Championship started with a match between Ukraine's next rivals, Kazakhstan and Japan.

The teams did not score in the first period, but in the second, Kazakhstan opened the scoring in the third minute. Over the course of 20 minutes, the Kazakhs doubled and tripled their lead with goals in the eighth and 14th minutes. In the third period, the Kazakh team completed the crushing victory with three more goals.

With their second win at the 2026 World Cup, Kazakhstan has cemented its place at the top of the standings with six points and seven goals scored. Japan, on the other hand, lost the game for the second time after losing to France.
