Ukraine has not yet received a response from the United States to the proposal of President Volodymyr Zelensky, who previously invited the American delegation to come to Kyiv for negotiations at the level of technical groups.
This was reported to the Public at the Embassy of Ukraine in the United States.
“As of today, the American side continues to consider our proposal, and we are waiting for a response. As soon as we hear about the readiness to hold the next round of negotiations, have no doubt that we will immediately begin preparations for it,” the diplomatic mission noted.
They emphasized that Kyiv is aware that the US's attention is currently focused on the Middle East. At the same time, the Ukrainian side hopes that the situation in the region will soon stabilize, and the focus of attention will return to Ukraine.
“This is important because our priority is one – we want to end this war, end this war fairly, with a just peace, and make sure that it never happens again. And for this, there must be strong security guarantees. All our priorities are known to the American side. We also know what the Russians think about this,” the Ukrainian Embassy in the United States noted.
The department emphasized that Ukraine is ready to “sit down at the negotiating table,” and also noted that Zelensky is open to holding a trilateral meeting at the leadership level.
As a reminder, on April 3, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that he had invited the American delegation to come to Kyiv for negotiations at the level of technical groups. According to him, this format is being considered as an alternative to the trilateral meeting, which is currently complicated by the war with Iran.
On April 14, the president announced that special envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner were planning to visit Ukraine. He said it was important for Witkoff and Kushner to come to Ukraine because it sends an important signal to society, adding that “we look forward to them any day they are ready.”
