The administration of the Dragobrat ski complex, situated in Transcarpathia, received a notice of suspicion regarding the demise of a holidaymaker in January 2025. The woman passed away after striking her head against an unprotected steel guardrail after a fall from a ski elevator.
In Transcarpathia, a notice of suspicion was delivered to the directorate of the Dragobrat ski area regarding the case involving a tourist’s passing in January of 2025. This information was furnished by UNN, citing the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Details
As per the inquiry, a 28-year-old woman, who practiced as a physician in the Volyn region, had come to spend time with companions. During her ascent on the ski tow, she traveled approximately 350 meters. Subsequently, the woman lost her grip on the cable and began to descend the mountainside quickly.
At a rapid pace, the woman’s head impacted a metallic barrier that lacked protective cushioning. This resulted in her immediate death at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that, during the time of the incident, the resort’s governing body:
- failed to guarantee the appropriate operational status of the barriers;
- permitted the functioning of the lift under hazardous circumstances;
- neglected to organize the function of the emergency and rescue team within the resort’s confines.
The resort executives were indicted under Part 2 of Article 272 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (breach of safety protocols during the execution of tasks involving heightened danger by a person obligated to adhere to them, leading to an individual’s death).
The stipulation of the article outlines possible penalties of restricted freedom for up to five years or imprisonment for a maximum of eight years, combined with the revocation of the entitlement to occupy particular positions or engage in specific pursuits for up to three years.
