A restored elementary school, which was damaged in the first weeks of the full-scale Russian invasion, has been opened in Hostomel, Kyiv Region.
This was announced by the head of the OVA, Mykola Kalashnyk.
After the de-occupation, children studied in neighboring settlements — they were brought there by school buses, and classes were organized in two shifts.
The renovation work lasted from January 2025 to April 2026. During this time, the building's structures were updated, the facade was insulated, the roof, windows, and doors were replaced, the engineering networks were modernized, and the interior was renovated.

The school has also been modernized: spaces for digital learning, robotics, and creativity have been set up, and sports fields have been created. The institution has a shelter that allows for in-person training during air raids.
The building was renovated within the framework of the “Ukraine Recovery Program” with the support of the EIB, as well as with funds from the regional and local budgets.
As a result of the fighting in the Gostomel community, all educational institutions were damaged. Some of them have already been restored, but reconstruction is ongoing.
In total, 271 educational institutions were damaged or destroyed in the Kyiv region, of which 225 have already been restored — that is, 84%.
