Samsung is preparing its own smart glasses, but their success is in question. The main problem is not the technology, but the lack of a stable ecosystem and long-term product support.

Samsung is working on Android-based smart glasses and, according to preliminary data, they could be released by the end of the year. Despite the interest in the novelty, there are serious doubts about how much the company is ready to support this product in the long term. This is reported by Android police .

Will Samsung's smart glasses repeat the fate of previous gadgets?

There is already a strong competitor on the market – Ray-Ban Meta , created in collaboration with Meta and the Ray-Ban brand. These glasses are gradually evolving: they receive updates, new models and expanded functions. They are part of a clear ecosystem that is constantly improving.

Samsung's main problem lies precisely in its ecosystem. The company has a large portfolio of devices , but often fails to bring new categories to maturity. An example is the Samsung Galaxy Ring, which after its launch in 2024 received virtually no development – there were no new versions or design updates.

A similar situation occurred with the Samsung Gear VR headset. It debuted in 2015 in partnership with Oculus, but support was discontinued a few years later. By 2020, the company had completely shut down services for the product.

Another example is the Samsung Ballie home robot, which was shown at exhibitions for years but never released. According to recent reports, the project may have been canceled altogether.

These cases give the impression that Samsung often launches promising products but doesn't support them long enough, which can make users wary of the company's new device categories.

According to The Verge , the partnership with Google and the use of Android XR and Galaxy AI look promising, but this in itself does not guarantee success. What is more important is a systematic approach to product development – regular updates, new models and a clear strategy.

Against this background, Ray-Ban Meta looks more attractive . They are available in different frame options, are constantly updated, and new generations do not completely replace the old ones, but complement the line. This creates a sense of stability and development.

Samsung has all the resources to build a strong ecosystem , as seen with its Galaxy smartphones. But outside of that segment, the company has yet to replicate the same success.

That's why future smart glasses may end up in the “risky purchase” category. Without long-term support, even a technologically interesting product can quickly lose relevance, while competitors continue to develop their solutions.
