In Kyiv, children set fire to dry grass for fun, causing a fire

A fire broke out near Lake Raiduzhne in the Dnipro district of Kyiv, and rescuers determined that the cause was arson from dry grass. According to police, the fire was started by two schoolchildren, and administrative reports were drawn up against their parents.

This was reported to the Kyiv police on May 1.

Law enforcement officials said that two boys, ages 9 and 11, admitted that they found matches while out for a walk and, for fun, set fire to dry grass, not expecting the flames to spread quickly.

No one was injured as a result of the fire.

The police conducted a preventive conversation with the boys, and against the parents, they drew up reports under Article 184 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses – improper performance of duties related to raising children. They face a fine of 850 to 1,700 hryvnias.
