- Russian “warlords” have announced a possible energy truce, but Ukrainian intelligence is skeptical of this information.
- Political scientist Oleg Sahakyan believes that there is a chance to agree on an energy truce in the coming weeks, but this could be a Kremlin ploy for manipulation.

Russian “military experts” have stated that Russia has supposedly declared an energy truce. The parties discussed this topic in Abu Dhabi at a trilateral meeting, but then it did not become concrete. Now there is information that Donald Trump personally spoke about such a truce with Vladimir Putin.
Despite this, Ukrainian intelligence has somewhat different information. Military observer Vasyl Pekhno told Channel 24 that Russian “military figures” cannot be trusted, and only if official spokesmen come forward can we assume the possibility of an energy truce.
Is an energy truce important for Ukraine?
Vasyl Pehnyo noted that negotiation advisors are working at a very high political level to find some kind of compromise in the peace process.
Kirill Budanov, back when he was the head of the GUR, predicted the dire consequences of winter (if Russia starts attacking the energy sector – Channel 24) and insisted on an energy truce. This did not happen, but if he is a member of the negotiating team, he probably continues to entertain this idea,
– he said.
The energy truce is a key issue for many state processes. Energy problems make life unbearable for a significant part of Ukrainians, negatively affect the economy, demography, and the military-industrial complex, which should work smoothly for good results, but due to power outages, this is difficult.
Ukraine really needs an energy balance, but the military observer does not believe in the possibility of such a truce.
Should we expect an energy truce?
Political scientist Oleg Sahakyan suggested that a certain “window” has appeared on the issue of an energy truce. He believes that there is a chance to reach an agreement in the coming weeks.
The peak of the Russian shelling has passed, they have already destroyed everything they could. Next, they will have a choice: to accumulate resources again, but the frosts will be over, or to try to win diplomatically, selling Trump that they are ready to go to an energy truce,
– said the political scientist.
Ukraine is also faced with the question of whether there are still chances to increase the capabilities of long-range strikes on Russia. If so, then, according to Sahakyan, it is not profitable for us to go to an energy truce now. If not, then perhaps such a truce makes sense.
Important! Zelensky reported that Ukrainian intelligence had recorded Russia preparing for a new strike on Ukraine. In an evening address on January 28, he stressed that the continuation of the attacks undermines any diplomatic efforts to end the war.
Russia's statement of alleged readiness for an energy truce is likely a ploy by the Kremlin to determine its next actions based on the US reaction. The Trump administration may welcome such a Russian initiative.
If this happens, the Kremlin dictator will try to manipulate by saying that Ukraine has not agreed to peace, which is why Russia is continuing its attacks.
In any case, the ceasefire on energy is an information and psychological operation by Russia with a diplomatic vector that has nothing to do with readiness or unwillingness to strike at Ukraine.
– added the political scientist.
He concluded that the Russian statement about a ceasefire is not a confirmed fact until there is an official agreement between the two countries and until the parties create a monitoring regime for such an agreement.
