According to the inquiry, the individual established trust with the members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, pretending to be an “ally” by offering help with navigating the terrain, positioning troops, and establishing routes. Exploiting this trust, he arranged their lodging and pointed out their paths of movement.

Initial details reveal that in April 2022, the individual led the invaders to the locations of Ukrainian defenders within the forestry area, where he had previously installed a device for secret monitoring. Subsequently, the man revealed to the adversary the route and timing of the vehicle carrying Ukrainian soldiers.
On April 17, 2022, a convoy was ambushed in the vicinity of the village of Spivakivka. Several defenders perished, two sustained injuries and were taken prisoner. During the offensive, the accused was alongside the invaders. Following this, a supportive post surfaced on a pro-Russian Telegram channel displaying images of wounded Ukrainian soldiers and the accused himself – justifying the armed aggression by the Russian Federation. One of the soldiers, once released from captivity, identified him and informed that the betrayer was clad in gear taken from Ukrainian fighters

On January 22, 2026, the individual was taken into custody at his residence. With the procedural guidance of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, he was informed of suspicion of high treason executed under conditions of martial law (Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The court mandated a preventive measure – detention without bail.
The “junior forester” is potentially facing life imprisonment for his actions.
