Trains collide in Indonesia: there are dead and injured

Two trains collided near Jakarta: as of 9 a.m. Kyiv time, at least 14 people were killed and another 84 people were injured.

This was announced by the railway operator on Tuesday, April 28, Reuters reports.

It is noted that rescuers have completed the work of unblocking people who remained trapped in the wreckage. The collision between a commuter train and a long-distance train occurred late on Monday evening in the city of Bekasi, near Jakarta.

As the AP writes, earlier the state-owned railway company PT Kereta Api Indonesia reported that 38 passengers were taken to hospitals for medical treatment.

An intercity train crashed into the last carriage of a suburban train parked at the station – a carriage reserved for women only. Rescue workers were trying to reach five female passengers trapped in the damaged carriage.

All 240 passengers on the intercity train were unharmed. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
