Moldova is ready to join the Coalition of Willing to Support Ukraine — Sandu

Moldovan President Maia Sandu announced that her country is ready to join international security initiatives in support of Ukraine, in particular the Coalition of the Willing.

She stated this during a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on April 26, a correspondent for Suspilny reports.

According to her, Moldova already has experience in cooperation with Ukraine, in particular in the training of sappers, and is ready to expand participation in joint initiatives.

“Yes, we are ready to join the Coalition of the Willing, and we discussed with the Ukrainian team how exactly this could happen, given that we are a neutral country. But, nevertheless, we have helped in the past. We have helped in the past with the training of deminers. And now we are ready to work on some concrete efforts that Moldova could provide within the framework of the Coalition of the Willing,” Sandu said.

As a reminder, on March 23, Sandu stated that the country could join the Coalition of the Willing — countries that express their willingness to help Ukraine in the war against Russia. According to her, such a decision does not contradict the Constitution of Moldova, which states that the country must maintain neutrality and prohibits foreign countries from stationing their troops on the territory of the country.

“It is important that we are also part of these efforts. As I said, our specialists can conduct training and participate in demining if the war in Ukraine ends,” she added.
