Ukraine and Azerbaijan have signed six agreements. In particular, they concern defense cooperation between the two states.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated this during a joint press conference with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev in Gabala on April 25.
“We signed six documents today. Our teams will definitely share the details later. These are different areas. Today, the number one area is security, this is the defense-industrial complex,” the head of state said.
In turn, Aliyev said that he discussed military-technical cooperation between the countries with Zelensky, and, he said, “this has prospects in both Ukraine and Azerbaijan.”
“We see the development of military industries, the defense-industrial complex. In general, we have excellent opportunities in production. And today we also had negotiations about this. And we want to deepen our cooperation in all areas,” the Azerbaijani president said.
He expressed confidence that the Ukrainian leader's visit to Azerbaijan will add “new significant contributions” to the development of relations between Baku and Kyiv.
On April 25, Zelensky flew to Azerbaijan after visiting Saudi Arabia. Prior to that, he attended the EU leaders' summit in Cyprus, where he participated in an informal meeting of the European Council.
In March, Zelenskyy said that 228 Ukrainian specialists were in the Middle East, helping local air defense forces combat Iranian strike drones. According to him, Ukraine had received 11 requests from Iran's neighbors, European states, and the United States for security support in countering Iranian “shaheeds” and other similar challenges.
