In several houses in the Holosiivskyi district, Oleksandr Perga was well known by everyone, from children to elderly residents. “Uncle Sasha” was there every day: he greeted people, helped with the housework, and looked after the yard. He was killed during a shooting in Kyiv not far from where he worked as a janitor.
This is reported by the correspondents of Suspilny.
He always greeted his neighbors and treated local children to sweets. All three houses knew Oleksandr. He also took care of the yard itself – he planted trees, including Christmas trees. He wanted fruit trees to grow here.
Most often, neighbors saw the man walking on the street with his cat, about which a lot was written on social networks after the tragedy.
“He picked up a small kitten and raised it so that it followed him without a leash, like a dog. It would pat itself on the shoulder and walk like that. The animal has been living in the village for a long time, and we feed the yard cats,” says neighbor Yana.

Oleksandr has worked at the ZhED since 2021. On the day of the shooting, he was at work, and later found himself near the scene of the events when he returned from the fair.
The head of the housing and operational department, Valentyn Brevus, said that Oleksandr and the shooter were acquaintances – he lived in the same building and often turned to him about everyday issues.
“This person who shot was a fairly active man. In the entrance he was installing doors, doing some kind of routine repairs. If there were any questions, Oleksandr helped him. I was very surprised that something like this could happen. He looked like an ordinary person,” said Valentin.
Meanwhile, a petition has appeared on social media asking for a memorial to be erected at the site of the tragedy.
As reported on the Kyiv24 TV channel, surveillance cameras recorded how the attacker, after the first shots, returned to the entrance, where a wounded child was sitting on the sidewalk, and her father was lying next to her.
At the moment when the shooter opened fire on the boy again, a janitor ran up to him. Doctors diagnosed the man with bullet wounds to the liver, stomach, and intestines. He died in the hospital a day later. They said goodbye to him on April 22.
