He brandished an axe and tried to take a teenager's scooter: a man was detained for hooliganism in Kyiv

In Kyiv, a 30-year-old man intoxicated tried to take a scooter from a teenager. When he failed to do so, he took an axe from his own car and started swinging it. The man now faces up to five years in prison for hooliganism.

This was reported on Thursday, April 23, by the capital's National Police Department.

It happened on Serhiy Naboka Street in the Dnipro district of the capital. A 30-year-old Kyiv resident, while intoxicated, decided to ride a scooter belonging to a minor. Despite the teenager's objections, the offender took a grinder from the trunk of his car and tried to cut the chain that was attached to the scooter to the building with it.

“When it was not possible to seize the scooter in this way, the angry man grabbed an axe and, cursing loudly, began to hit trees and metal supports with it. This greatly frightened passers-by, the police said,” the police said.

Law enforcement officers detained the man and informed him of suspicion under Part 1 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – hooliganism – gross violation of public order. The sanction of the most severe punishment provides for up to five years of restriction of liberty, the Kyiv police said in a statement.
