Detection of the bacterium and Azerbaijan's response
A dangerous bacterium, salmonella, was detected during laboratory tests in a batch of frozen chicken products weighing 4.9 thousand kilograms, which was imported from Ukraine to Azerbaijan, Report.az reports. The specified products had expiration dates from February 16, 2026 to February 16, 2028.
Salmonella is a causative agent of intestinal infections and poses a threat to the health of consumers. In this regard, the Food Safety Agency of Azerbaijan promptly responded and applied the necessary control measures.
In particular, the Azerbaijani side appealed to the Ukrainian authorities with a demand to temporarily suspend the export of products from a specific manufacturer until all circumstances are clarified.
Ukraine's reaction and increased control
The State Food and Consumer Protection Service of Ukraine confirmed receipt of the relevant appeal and announced the start of an investigation into a possible violation of food safety requirements, Ukrinform reported.
The department's specialists must establish the causes of the non-compliance and check the production processes of the enterprise. In parallel, preventive measures have already been activated in Ukraine to prevent the spread of salmonellosis.
In particular, regional units of the service have intensified monitoring of the situation, are conducting information work, and are controlling cases of diseases. Such steps should minimize risks for both the domestic market and the export image of Ukrainian products.
