On April 21, the EU Council decided to impose sanctions against two more organizations responsible for Russia's hybrid operations – propaganda and disinformation.
This is stated in a press release of the Council of the EU.
Thus, the sanctions list included the media platform Euromore, which the EU Council identified as an “unofficial relay of pro-Kremlin propaganda.” They explained that Euromore spreads Russian narratives, constantly questions the legitimacy of European institutions, and also justifies the Russian Federation's war against Ukraine.
Another structure that has been restricted is the Russian “Fund for Support and Protection of the Rights of Compatriots Living Abroad” (“Pravfond”). The Council of the EU recalled that this organization, founded and financed by the Kremlin, is a key instrument of the Russian Federation's external influence strategy. The legal and analytical activities of the fund are used to promote the Kremlin's theses about the “Nazification” of Ukraine, the spread of myths about “mass Russophobia” and “systematic persecution of the Russian-speaking population” in neighboring states.
“The designated organizations are responsible for supporting the actions and policies of the Russian government that undermine democracy, the rule of law, stability and security in the European Union and Ukraine,” the EU Council stressed.
The sanctions include freezing the assets of these organizations in the European bloc, and EU citizens and companies are prohibited from providing them with any financial or economic resources.
The EU sanctions list for Russia's destabilizing activities already includes 69 individuals and 19 legal entities.
Previously, the Kremlin stated that the Russian Federation is losing its “toolkit” for propaganda work abroad due to the need to work with “hostile” social networks that are popular all over the world.
