The Ukrainian wholesale market has recorded an increase in potato prices after several months of stability. The price increase is explained by a reduction in supply and a shortage of quality products on farms.

Potato prices started to rise last week

Wholesale prices for potatoes in Ukraine began to rise at the beginning of last week, EastFruit analysts report. Prior to this, the segment had maintained price stability since mid-December last year, and at the end of 2025, sellers were even forced to reduce prices for individual batches, in particular for potatoes not suitable for long-term storage.

The market situation began to change in the middle of this month. Against the background of stable demand and a significant reduction in supply, sellers raised selling prices to the level of 7-13 hryvnias per kilogram, which is an average of 16 percent more expensive than at the end of the first decade of January this year. At the same time, representatives of wholesale companies are increasingly reporting a shortage of quality potatoes from local producers.

Please note! Experts note that the main reason for the current price increase was the general reduction in supply on the domestic market. Farmers without proper storage completed the sale of potatoes before the onset of frost, while owners of quality products are holding back sales, expecting more favorable prices in the coming months.

Some producers also attribute quality problems and unstable supply to adverse weather conditions during the 2025 harvest. Prolonged rains in some regions have worsened the marketability of potatoes and their keeping quality, and the use of local planting material has not yielded the expected results.

Important! Despite the current price increase, selling prices for potatoes in Ukraine remain on average 60–65 percent lower than in the same period last year. Producers of quality potatoes predict an increase in price trends closer to spring this year.

Carrots are creeping up: Ukraine records a new wave of price increases

  • Ukrainian farmers have raised carrot prices due to reduced supply, selling them for 6-12 hryvnias per kilogram, which is 15% more expensive than last week.

  • Analysts note that carrots in Ukraine are 70% cheaper than last year, and predict further price increases closer to mid-spring.
