In the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv, the Walmart supermarket, where an attacker took people hostage on the evening of April 18, will be closed until April 27. Local residents are currently cleaning their homes after a fire that a man set in his apartment before committing the terrorist attack.
This was reported by a correspondent of Suspilny, who visited the scene of the terrorist attack today, April 19.
In particular, the correspondent visited the house where the attacker lived and spoke with the locals.
Before going outside and opening fire, a fire broke out in his apartment on the fifth floor of a high-rise building. According to the Kyiv City State Administration, the man set fire to his apartment himself.

Zinaida and Volodymyr, who live in a neighboring apartment, told Suspilny that when they smelled smoke yesterday, they started calling the owner of the house to say that there was a fire in his apartment. Then they heard shots. Volodymyr says that he had once been to the shooter's apartment and saw cartridges and weapons. So, according to him, “they were afraid of him.”
“I went into his room, and on his window were dozens of cartridges, machine guns. The gun was lying there. And he says: I have something to defend myself with, I'm not afraid of anyone, I can kill anyone I want,” said Volodymyr, the shooter's neighbor.

“Yesterday I just went out for a walk and heard shooting, I didn't understand that it was near the house. I heard screams, I thought that the children were screaming like that, or maybe it was the woman who died, then I saw that the apartment was on fire,” said the attacker's neighbor Nina.
According to her, “there and now there is blood on the asphalt. It was scary. There was a scream, I thought it was children. But it was probably a woman.”
Another neighbor, Daryna, said she smelled smoke in the apartment and went out into the shared corridor, where everything was drawn with a curtain. The woman heard shots.
Daryna said that the man who carried out the shooting in the Holosiivskyi district did not stand out among the others. According to her, it was impossible to say that “he could take a weapon and go shoot.”
