A large-scale poll was conducted in the United Kingdom on support for the country's return to the European Union. 53% of Britons surveyed said they were in favor of the country's membership in the EU, with 83% of voters of the ruling Labour Party saying so.
This is stated in a study by the organization “Best for Britain”.
According to the survey, 49% support a customs union between the UK and the EU – conditions under which the country would import and export goods to the CEE with zero duty. 46% of Britons support the idea of a single market with the EU.
Also, according to the survey, 84% of Liberal Democrat voters support the country's return to the EU. 82% of Green voters support Britain's membership in the EU. Only 39% of Conservative voters support Britain's membership in the EU, and only 18% of voters of the pro-Russian and pro-Trump far-right Reform UK support this.
The organization “Best for Britain” also noted that the majority of Britons surveyed are dissatisfied with the “mediocre” decisions of the Labor Party government regarding the restoration of relations with the EU. Labor is against a full-fledged single market between Britain and the EU and only wants to harmonize trade rules between the country and the Union.
Respondents disagree with such policies and seek greater integration between the EU and Britain. The organization believes that one of the conditions for voter support for the Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats is further improvement of relations with the EU and even negotiations for full membership.
The poll was conducted on the 10th anniversary of Brexit. On June 23, 2016, the United Kingdom voted in a referendum to leave the European Union, or Brexit (a portmanteau of the words Britain and exit). The Conservative government then began the process of leaving the EU, which ended on January 31, 2020.
