“Some kind of joke.” Real Madrid slam referee for “decisive” sending off in Champions League quarter-final against Bayern

Real Madrid representatives have criticized referee Slavko Vincich for sending off midfielder Eduardo Camavinga in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Bayern Munich.

Camavinga was sent off in the decisive second leg against Bayern Munich with four minutes remaining. Coming on as a 62nd-minute substitute, the Frenchman picked up two yellow cards in 24 minutes on the pitch.

The French midfielder was first shown a yellow card in the 78th minute for a challenge on Bayern midfielder Jamal Musiala, and eight minutes later, Kamavinga fouled forward Harry Kane.

Camavinga was not booked for the foul on Kane, but he was interfering with the ball being put into play, delaying time. In response, Vinčić decided to show the Frenchman a yellow card, his second of the match.

The Real Madrid players disagreed with the referee's decision, but he did not change it. At the time of Camavinga's sending off, the aggregate score was tied at 4-4, meaning overtime was a possibility.

However, Madrid were unable to force the game into overtime. A minute after Camavinga was sent off, Bayern winger Luis Diaz equalized (and put Bayern ahead in the match). And in added time, German midfielder Michael Oliseh scored another goal, making the final score 6-4 on aggregate.
