A case of African swine fever among wild fauna has been confirmed in Chernivtsi district. As a result, quarantine restrictions are being introduced in the region and protection and surveillance zones are being defined.

ASF outbreak confirmed by laboratory

A case of African swine fever among wild pigs has been recorded in Chernivtsi district, the regional department of the State Service for Food and Consumer Protection of Ukraine reported.

The virus was detected in animals found dead in the fields of the village of Strilets'kyi Kut, Mamayevsk community. The diagnosis was confirmed by the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Laboratory after conducting relevant research.

In this regard, the State Anti-Epizootic Commission declared the territory of the field lands of the specified settlement as the focus of the disease.

Quarantine and restriction zones have been identified.

The protection zone within a radius of three kilometers includes the villages of Strilets'kyi Kut and Bila, as well as part of the city of Chernivtsi.

The surveillance zone covers a wider area – settlements within ten kilometers, including the communities of Mamaivska, Kitsmanska, Kamianska, and Horishnyosherovetska, as well as the city of Chernivtsi itself.

Please note! In these zones, a census of the pig population on farms will be conducted and the conditions of their keeping will be checked. Quarantine restrictions will be in effect for at least 40 days after all necessary veterinary and sanitary measures have been taken and the decision of the relevant commission has been made.

  • An outbreak of African swine fever among wild boars has been confirmed in the Ivano-Frankivsk region, with 1.6% of the animals shot being infected.

  • The growth of the wild boar population is due to hunting restrictions due to martial law and migration, and measures to regulate the number of animals have been introduced to control the spread of ASF.
