
Two young men have been charged with committing a terrorist act. The explosion occurred on the evening of April 13 in Brovary, Kyiv Oblast. A 36-year-old man was injured in the explosion near a private house.
This was reported to the Prosecutor General's Office and the National Police.
Investigators determined that an improvised explosive device was planted near a fence and remotely activated using a mobile phone.
“It was found that two young men were involved in the crime – a 23-year-old perpetrator, a resident of the city of Brovary, and a 17-year-old organizer, a resident of the Chernivtsi region. The perpetrators have been detained,” the National Police said.
According to the case materials, the teenager received a task via messenger and acted on the instructions of a representative of the Russian special services, who promised a reward of about 5 thousand US dollars.
Both detainees were charged under Part 2 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine with committing a terrorist act. The article carries a sentence of up to 12 years in prison. The issue of choosing a preventive measure for them is being decided. The prosecutor's office will insist on keeping them in custody without bail.
“It was separately established that the minor suspect has a drug addiction and has previously been held criminally liable. In fact, the child was left without proper control. In this regard, the prosecutor's office will check the actions of the parents, as well as the responsible bodies and services that were supposed to ensure the protection of the child's rights,” the Prosecutor General's Office said.
