
The organizers of the leading commercial series of track and field competitions, the Diamond League, will be giving away a record prize pool for the winners of the series finale, the official website of the competition announced.
The total prize pool for the 2026 Diamond League season will remain unchanged after being increased to a record $9.24 million in 2025. However, the winners of the finals of individual disciplines will receive more prize money. Organizers have redistributed the money, increasing the amounts for gold medalists in Diamond+ disciplines, but reducing the prize money for all other participants in the competition.

In the 2026 season, like last year, athletes will be able to earn up to $10,000 in series competitions and up to $30,000 in the Diamond League final. However, in the Diamond+ disciplines, prize money for all participants has been reduced, while in the finals of these disciplines, they have increased it – last year, the champions received $50,000, now $60,000.
How have the prize money in Diamond+ disciplines changed at each stage in the series?
- 1st place: $20,000 — kept the amount The organizers left 20 thousand for winning the stage, like last year, but reduced the prize money for all other places in the series. ;
- 2nd place: $6,000 — reduced from $10,000
- 3rd place: $4,000 — reduced from $6,000
- 4th place: $3,000 — reduced from $5,000

- 6th place: $2,000 — reduced from $2,500
- 7th place: $1.5 thousand — reduced from $2 thousand
- 8th place: $1,000 — reduced from $1,500
- 9th place and below: $500 — reduced from $750
How did the prize money change in the Diamond+ disciplines in the final?
- 1st place: $60,000 — increased by $10,000 In the final, they increased the amount for the winner from $50,000 to $60,000, left $20,000 for second place, and reduced all other prizes.

- 3rd place: $9,000 — reduced from $10,000.
- 4th place: $4,000 — reduced from $6,000.

- 8th place: $1,000 — reduced from $2,000
- 9th place and below: $500 — reduced from $1,000
Also this year, the number of Diamond+ events at each stage of the Diamond League will increase from four to eight. Now, Diamond+ events at one stage of the series must include two sprint or hurdle events (one for men and one for women), two middle or long distance events, and two field events and two of any other.
“This reflects the Diamond League's commitment to providing a competitive, financially sustainable and gender-equal prize money structure that benefits athletes across the full spectrum of athletics,” said Petr Shtastny, CEO of the Diamond League.
After the 2025 season, four Ukrainian track and field athletes received prizes for their results in the Diamond League. The total prize money won by Ukrainians this season was $111,000, with Maguchikh winning the most — $57,000.
The 2026 Diamond League season will kick off with a stage in Shanghai, scheduled for May 16. The season was originally scheduled to open with The stage in Qatar was on May 8, but the competition in Doha was postponed to June 19 due to the security situation in the Middle East.
