Prices for quality carrots in Ukraine have started to rise due to high demand and reduced stocks. The market is reacting to a seasonal shortage of products in storage.
Demand is growing, stocks are shrinking
According to EastFruit analysts, Ukraine has seen an increase in prices for quality carrots this week. The main reason was a combination of strong demand and limited supply.
Wholesale companies and retail chains are actively purchasing root vegetables, while farm stocks are rapidly decreasing. As a result, farmers have had the opportunity to revise prices upwards.
Currently, carrots are sold for 6–13 hryvnias per kilogram, which is an average of 20% more expensive than at the end of the last working week.
Seasonal factor and quality deficit
Experts explain the positive price dynamics by the seasonal depletion of stocks of quality products. The closer to the new harvest, the more difficult it is to find high-quality carrots in the required quantities.
Market participants note that buyers are increasingly facing supply shortages, which further supports product prices.
Pay attention! At the same time, carrots remain significantly cheaper on an annual basis: current prices are approximately 69% lower than during the same period last year.
Currently, according to the Ministry of Finance, carrot prices in supermarkets of popular chains have been set at the following level:
- Metro 8.80 hryvnias per kilogram;
- Auchan 9.90 hryvnias per kilogram;
- Megamarket 19 hryvnias per kilogram;
- Silpo 9.80 hryvnia per kilogram;
- ATB 8.89 hryvnia per kilogram.
