On Saturday, April 11, US Vice President J.D. Vance arrived in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, where he will lead a US delegation in talks with Iran. Iranian representatives, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, have also arrived in the country.
CNN and The New York Times write about this.
It is noted that Vance was met at the plane by the Commander-in-Chief of the Pakistani Armed Forces, Asim Munir, Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, and the Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Islamabad, Natalie Baker.
Along with Vance, other members of the negotiating team also arrived in Islamabad, including special envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner.
An Iranian delegation led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf flew to Pakistan earlier on April 11 to prepare for upcoming meetings.
According to The Guardian, in addition to Ghalibaf, the Iranian delegation included 13 other officials. Among them are Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi, Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghaddam, member of Iran's Supreme National Security Council Ali Akbar Ahmadian, his deputy Ali Bagheri Kani, President of the National Defense University Esmael Ahmadi Moghaddam, and others.
Vance has already arrived at the five-star Serena Hotel in Islamabad, where talks between Pakistani and Iranian officials will take place.
The publication notes that the hotel was completely emptied of other guests earlier this week to accommodate delegations. In addition, Pakistani authorities have placed information banners throughout Islamabad in support of the talks. They feature the flags of Pakistan, the United States and Iran and read: “Negotiations in Islamabad in April 2026.”
