Trump says US will open Strait of Hormuz “pretty soon”

US leader Donald Trump said the US would open the Strait of Hormuz “pretty soon”, but did not elaborate and acknowledged that it would not be an easy step.

Reuters writes about this .

Trump also suggested that other countries were offering help, but did not identify any nation.

“Other countries are using the strait. So other countries are joining us, and they will help. It will not be easy… But I would say that we will ensure that it is opened fairly soon,” the US president said.

Tehran's blockade of the strait after the start of the Iran-Iraq war has caused the world's largest energy crisis. About 20% of the world's oil and liquefied gas exports pass through this strategic route.

Trump has previously expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of NATO allies in protecting the Strait of Hormuz. According to Reuters, after meeting with him, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte informed European governments that the US president expects concrete commitments from them to help protect the strait in the coming days.
